Gerald Nicosia is best known for two prose books, Memory Babe: A Critical Biography of Jack Kerouac and Home to War: A History of the Vietnam Veterans’ Movement. He has previously published six books of his own poetry. Last of the Lincolns is his seventh. His second collection Love, California Style was chosen by Small Press Review as one of the outstanding poetry books of 2002. He has also written a great deal of literary criticism for major newspapers such as the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Tribune. Nicosia has read his poetry throughout the United States and abroad, at such notable sites as the Bowery Poetry Club in New York, Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California, the Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea, Wales, and Shakespeare & Company Bookstore in Paris. In 2013, Nicosia received one of the first Acker Awards “for avant-garde excellence.” He is currently working on a critical biography of the late poet and playwright Ntozake Shange.
