Through All Seasons, a chapbook of thirty-three poems, captures in vivid detail a season of challenge for Western North Carolina. In September 2024, catastrophic flooding hit the region with Hurricane Helene. Communities were devastated and lives changed forever. Duncan chronicles this storm and its aftermath as she saw it firsthand—the terror and the hope as people in her county took action to recover and help their neighbors.
This book of poems also considers the seasons of life: memories of childhood, family, friends, customs of a bygone era, and the inevitable changes that come with time.
And, finally, Through All Seasons looks at nature in different seasons and the creatures that have been part of Duncan’s life—dogs, squirrels, crows, hawks—in a region rich with wildlife that communes with the human world.
Through All Seasons offers a glimpse into life in one small region of Western North Carolina, but presents the universal experience of loss, love, and hope.
